Sally Z. Weiss Retires from Syracuse University’s Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) – Southeast ADA Center

Sally Weiss, a pioneer and tireless advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, retired in March 2018 from Syracuse University’s Burton Blatt Institute (BBI).

In an amazing career spanning four decades, Sally’s work began in the classroom in Rockville, MD, continued as an editor with the American Enterprise Institute, and then on to the United Cerebral Palsy where she served in multiple roles including Information/Publications Coordinator, Project Director, and National Projects Coordinator. For the past 18 years, Sally served as the Director of Knowledge Translation at BBI’s Southeast ADA (SEADA) Center, the region’s resource on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Sally coordinated and wrote five successful grant proposals to secure funding for the SEADA Center. As Director of Knowledge Translation she has reviewed and edited countless court decisions,  developed on-line courses on the Americans with Disabilities Act and customer service for disabilities, identified, documented, and disseminated mini-case studies and reports on best practices in voluntary ADA compliance in the Southeast Federal Region IV. Sally was also a respected voice in the ADA National Network. She served on several national committees and was often sought out for her editing skills and historical knowledge of the Network. SEADA staff also fondly considered her the “office Mom.”

Ms. Weiss is the proud mother of four adult children, “Bramber” to her dearly loved grandchildren, and a fur mother to several cats and dogs. She also serves as a foster fur-Mom for Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

With her enduring sense of justice, her love of nature and animals, and her wise counsel, Sally has many gifts to share. We wish Sally the best of luck and reluctantly agree to share her with the rest of the world!
