Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Disability Mentoring Day

The Southeast ADA Center, a project of BBI, coordinated five National Disability Employment Awareness Month and Disability Mentoring Day activities with businesses in the Atlanta, Ga. area. As a result of the collaborations, the center is exploring long-term partnerships with Darden Restaurants and Wal-Mart to encourage the more frequent coordination of job shadowing and mentoring opportunities throughout the year.

BBI's Southeast TACE projects improve outcomes for job seekers with most significant disabilities

A study about the pilot projects will be published in the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation. The Southeast Technical Assistance and Continuing Education (TACE) Center's pilot projects have advanced vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies understanding and utilization of best practices in four southeastern states. VR agencies have a new option, thanks to the pilot projects, to improve outcomes for job seekers with the most significant disabilities.

Braille and tactile formats are included, as well as titles for children and young adults. The books will be on exhibit until Nov. 14.

BBI provides emergency preparedness guidance for people with disabilities

“BBI’s longstanding work in the area of disaster mitigation for people with disabilities is particularly timely,” says University Professor Peter Blanck, BBI chairman. BBI researchers were involved in a post-Hurricane Katrina study funded by the US Department of Labor. In addition, the Southeast ADA Center is one of ten regional resource centers providing hurricane preparedness resources to employers, business, government, and people with disabilities.
